So, I was walking home from work with
Stefanie Tweedle Wit this afternoon when we came across the following bizarre but freaking sweet structure with some kind of DC-themed illusion street art painted on it:
What in the holy hell
is this thing?
No, but seriously.
I couldn't stop staring.

it's a ventilation tower for the D Street tunnel beneath it... that they tried to make, er... prettier?
Ohhh! Cool, thanks!
Waflan is partially right. It is a ventilation tower that's been painted with a tromp l'oeil--the art of deception.
It's a cool little trick on the eye, isn't it? Before they built that condo complex in front of it, it was especially deceptive and fun. Now, it's just sort of meh.
It's totally tight! I honestly couldn't look away. But I've been by here before and never noticed it. Just shows how much of our surroundings we often miss.
Wait, that's been there for a while? I've never seen it. Yikes.
I'm pretty sure it houses Big Brother cameras.
Damn! I'm kind of in love with this structure! How random. Of course, it would be even more awesome if instead of the Capitol, they painted something cooler on it. Like zombies or something.
